How to Be a Responsible Lawyer

The MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam) is a little more than a week away. Hopefully between now and next Saturday at 9 a.m., enough of the above BarBri book will sink in so that the state of California will deem me "ethical enough" to practice law in their fine state. Unfortunately, California has one of the highest minimum scores needed in order to pass. So while my last score is high enough for me to practice in some states, I'm apparently still a little too shady for the Golden State's liking. Go figure.

A weekend full of reading and practice exams...good thing the nice weather has been replaced with traditional Oregon rain!

Friends, Auction, and Cheese Quesadilla

I don't know what it is about getting all dressed up, but it always makes me happy. We all put on the finest thing we could find in our closets and headed off to enjoy one last OLSPIF auction. The auction itself was pretty lame this year, but hanging out with the girls eating cheese and crackers and taking pictures was a blast! It's sad to think that we don't really have another reason to get dressed up, minus graduation, but that's different since we'll mostly be spending it with our families. After this it's just months of bar prep and bar related anxiety and panic attacks. Lame.

People at the auction seemed especially plastered this year. Maybe it was a good thing that there weren't as many lawyers and judges from the community in attendance. I don't drink and I've noticed these past few years that my patience with drunk people has grown increasingly short. It's funny for a few minutes, listening to people tipsily make fools of themselves, but then when you have someone yelling in your face, attempting to telling you a story they've already attempted to tell you two or three times before, it gets a little old. By the end of the night, the sound of glasses breaking rang throughout the law school, making me wonder why the people that organize the auction ever thought that drunk people and breakables would end well.

And how do you end a night spent in 4 inch heels and a super fitted dress? Taco Bell cheese quesadilla, comfy sweats, and Stephen Colbert in a Canadian Royal Mountie uniform (I should clarify, I was watching the Olympics...this isn't some weird fantasy of mine). Perfection.

Dance, Dance

I love dancing so much. I started bopping to the beat of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie by the time I could stand on my own two feet. I was mimicking Paula Abdul dance moves by elementary school. And even though I don't have any formal dance classes around Eugene to take, sometimes I just put on my earphones and dance in front of the mirror in my apartment. Basically, in a perfect world, if I could be a professional dancer, I would (no, not that kind of professional dancer).

Tonight the Latin American Legal Student Association sponsored a salsa night downtown and it was so fun! Aaron was my dance partner for the night and I'm pretty confident in saying that we danced circles around the other law students. The picture above is me helping Ben get the basic steps down while Aaron went over to help Kiley. I think when we put the two of them back together, their rhythm was much improved. Aaron and I were able to master five different moves in the span of a couple of hours. Next stop: Dancing with the Stars?

It was such a fun night! It was a perfect way to salvage a less than stellar week. :-)

Adventures in Doing Nothing Productive

Monday mornings in the Small Business Clinic. It's not even a particularly nice day outside (I guess it's nice by Oregon standards though since it's not raining), but I'm just not feeling the need to be productive just yet. I'd much rather be back on my couch watching the fourth hour of the Today Show... :)
